ADS127L11EVM-PDK: Continuous Capture Use Case?

Part Number: ADS127L11EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS127L11

Hi Team,

Hope you are well!

I have the ADS127L11 eval hooked up and messed with it a bit. I have a handful of parts to swap out on the board to get the gain and such set to an appropriate level for my application. One question – what does the “Capture -> Continuous Capture” do?

I would like to be able to capture data long data sets and 2097152 samples seems to be the maximum. I was hoping there was some way I could do longer recordings with the Continuous Capture option. It doesn’t seem to do anything though.

Let me know if you need more infromation!

Thanks,
Connor

  • Hello Connor,

Continuous Capture is really auto-repeat capture.  With continuous capture selected and then clicking the 'Capture' button, the GUI captures the number of samples selected, transfers to the PC, displays the results, and then automatically starts another capture until the 'Capture' button is pressed a second time to cancel.  This mode of operation is useful for EMI testing, debugging communications, etc.  The data is not contiguous; there are large gaps in the data due to the long time for the GUI to process and display the data.

The current version of the GUI only supports up to 2M samples of contiguous data.  There is planned future support for the 'log to bin file', which can capture up to 4G of samples, assuming the USB bus and PC can keep up with the data rate.  However, this is binary data and you need a software tool such as Matlab to import and display the data; Excel or Notepad does not support this raw data format.
