ADS1115: Conversion speed

Part Number: ADS1115

when I use all channels I have to devide the max conversion /4, right? Eg.: 860SPS/4=215SPS per ch.

Do I get better resolution when I sample slower? If yes, is this documented?

Can I use continous mode when using all 4 channels?

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

Let me check on the effective data rate per channel and I will get back to you.

Regarding the resolution, this should be relatively constant but will vary as the RMS noise changes with the data rate and FSR. To get some ideal of the effective resolution and the effect that the RMS noise has, you can take a look at the table in section 8.1 in the data sheet. For continuous mode, you can use for multiple channels but we recommend using single-shot mode. The reason being is that in single shot mode, you tell the ADC when to begin sampling and the conversion data is output specifically for that channel. In continuous mode, if you switch channels in the middle of the sampling period, the conversion results may not be accurate and include the previous channel.

  • Hi Holger,

When channels are scanned one after another, the max throughput will be (# of channels)/(selected throughput). So for example, if you are using 860SPS and want to scan 4 channels one after another, then the effective throughput will be 860SPS/4. I hope this is clear.
