ADS8866: Absolute Maximum AVDD/DVDD

Part Number: ADS8866

Not sure if I have the latest datasheet, but I was wondering if the absolute maximum tolerated voltage at AVDD/DVDD power pins are still 4V? I run into a safety margin problem if applying 3.3V to these power pins with 10% derating factor. With this derating factor, the absolute max tolerable voltage becomes 3.6V and power supply output max would be 3.63V. Unless 10% derating is too high for this device. in this case, what would be correct derating factor?

  • Hello Ali,

First, welcome to TI's E2E Community!

The absolute maximum supply voltage rating for the ADS8866 is still 4V.  Please note that exceeding this value can cause permanent damage to the device.  Also, continuous operation at this voltage level over a long period of time can also degrade device performance.  This is meant as a transient rating, and not continuous.

The maximum operating voltage to meet datasheet specifications and maintain long term reliability is 3.6V.  In reality, operating at 3.63V, you are likely never to see any performance or reliability issues.  However, 3.6V is the maximum that we tested the device, and we cannot recommend exceeding this level for anything other than a transient condition.

I suggest either using a tighter tolerance 3.3V supply, or lowering the supply voltage to ensure the maximum 3.6V is not exceeded.
