ADS7924: while switching between modes

Part Number: ADS7924

Hi,

I am using ADS7924 in my application for voltage monitoring and protection.

I want to know what happens when switching between the modes, for example while running in Auto-Scan mode, If the mode is changed to Manual scan mode on the fly,

1. will ADS7924 stop the conversion abruptly and switch the mode to manual mode for sampling the channel ??? or

2. ADS7924 will finish the current conversion with sampled value and store the result in data register and then switch the mode to manual scan mode.??? or

what is expected during this scenario.

Thanks,

Regards,

Vignesh

  • Hello Vignesh,

I suspect the first scenario will occur. When the device switches modes, it will restart the status and allow tpu, tacq, and tconv to elapse. You can set tpu to 0s but tacq will still have to elapse. tacq is essentially the time where the sample and hold switches are closed. In order to avoid switching modes during the conversion phase, you can monitor the INT pin since it can be programed to output a logic HIGH when the device is busy with a conversion.
