ADS8910B: Quad SPI on ADS8910B

Part Number: ADS8910B

Hello,

For getting data from ADS8910B, the provided enhanced SPI can achieve high data throughput which is applying 4 data lines. Does the Quad SPI ,which is specifically used for communicating flash memory, can be used for reading data from ADS8910B? Not sure the Quad SPI protocol can be used as the enhanced SPI in ADS8910B.

Thanks,

  • Hello Andy,

The quad-SDO enhanced SPI does not follow the standard SD bus mode.  It may be possible to use a hardware port that supports SD bus mode, but the ADS8910B does not follow the standard SD card protocol.  Typically, if you want to use the dual-SDO or quad-SDO mode, it is implemented using an FPGA or a flexible/programmable multi-lane serial interface inside the host processor.

I will note that you can get the full 1Msps rate from the ADS8910B using a standard SPI port with a single MISO connection.  You can do this by operating the SPI port at a minimum 58MHz SCLK in Zone 1 mode (requires DVDD>2.35V), or a minimum 20MHz SCLK in Zone 2 mode.  These different Zones are defined in section 7.5.3 of the datasheet, and Figures 45 and 46.
