DAC38J82: FIR filter details

Part Number: DAC38J82

Hi

From the data sheet both the inputs to and the outputs from the FIR filters seams to be 16-bits. But I am unable to find, from the data sheet, any detailed description of the resolution and where and which bits are dropped, rounded, truncated or saturated through the FIR filters to produce 16-bits output from 16-bits input. Can this information be shared?

  • Oddbjorn,

The only information I can provide is as follows:

The performance of the DAC itself it typically the limiting factor, and the quantization noise produced by rounding each filter output typically plays only a small role in the SNR that you see on the DAC output.  For high interpolation factors, the 16-bit input to the DUC can begin to play some role in the SNR you see within the passband of the DUC (as observed at the DAC output).

    Regards,

    Jim
