ADS1118-Q1: software confirmation: ADS1118-Q1 replace ADS1018-Q1

Hi Experts,

Now customer is using ADS1118-Q1 to replace ADS1018-Q1. I checked the datasheet difference between ADS1118-Q1 and ADS1018-Q1. I just find the data rate and RESET=058Bh definition is different.

Are there any other different between those two devices? Could you help on this? Thanks.

    Besides sample rate, the ADS1018-Q1 is only 12-bits.  What sample rate are you using now?

    As you can tell, the structure of the bit fields are the same. Also you've mentioned it already, the Data rate is different but all of the rest of the bits have the same function. I'm not sure what you mean by RESET definition is different, maybe just highlighting the data rate change? If so, I agree.



    ADC Data Format:

    So, all devices in the ADS1x18-x family has SPI frames in 16 or 32 bit formats. The MSB and LSB is contained in 2, 16 bit packets. In other words, the length of the SPI frame shouldn't change.

    ADS1018-Q1 is a 12 bit resolution and the ADS1118-Q1 is 16 bit resolution. This difference is reflected in the ADC data result, so you'll see that ADS1018 and ADS1018-Q1 will have bits [3:0] always read zero and the ADS1118 will utilize all 16 bits. 



    Sometimes we get this question for those switching from the ADS1018 to the ADS1118. If this is the case, for the switching to the ADS1118-Q1, they can choose whether to continue to throw out the last 4 bits, or utilize those last 4 bits. I don't know if you've looked at the nonautomotive version but I also want to highlight there is no functional change between the ADS1018-Q1 and ADS1018, or ADS1118 and ADS1118-Q1. As the specification table shows, qualifications and temperature specifications are different.
