On the TIDA-00826 reference design, an LMH6401 is used on an automatic gain control (AGC) loop with ADC ADC12J4000. Why is this block necessary on an oscilloscope front-end stage? If I need less bandwidth, and I would like to use ADC3662 instead, is the automatic gain control (AGC) loop necessary?

Hi Pabi,

Probably at the time this reference design was developed. The LMH parts were the best in class amplifier and VGA we had to offer.

If you need less BW, then yes the ADC3662 would be a better choice ADC for you.

Thanks for your reply. Could you comment if using the ADC3662 requires also automatic gain control?

Hi Pabl,

Depending on your system application and requirements, a VGA may be of interest for you and could be used with the ADC3662.
