ADS131M08 Precision ADC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131M08, ADS1292

A request for Precision ADC (simultaneous 8 channel) recommendation for PHYSIOLOGICAL monitoring aplication

Caracteristc of sinals:

channel 1: invasive pressure (1)

Frequency:
input range: -5mv to 11.25 mv
Gain: 64

channel 2: invasive pressure (2)

input range: -5mv to 11.25 mv
Gain: 64

channel 3: temperature (1)

input range: 500mv to 1000 mv
Gain: 1

channel 4: temperature (2)

input range: 500mv to 1000 mv
Gain: 1

channel 5: FiO2

input range: 0mv to 62 mv
Gain: 16

The ADS131M08, will work with this aplication?

  • Hi Pedro,

Can you be more specific if the -5mV range is in regard to the lowest voltage they want to be able to measure or not? Also, Needing a gain = 1V/V for 500mV to 100mV seem arbitrary when different ADCs have different full scale ranges that scale with different gain. Which means increasing the gain might help the full scale range out of the ADC, especially if it inputs are differential vs. single ended, etc.

In general, I don't see a reason this wouldn't work. But if you can give other info such as bandwidth, a minimum resolution, minimum number of channels, and others, we might have different devices that might work for this better.

    Best,

    -Cole

  • Hi Cole, sorry for delay.

All the Bandwith Signals is smallest that 500Hz

    Channel 1 and 2:
    Differential input
    Bridge Common Voltage = 2.5V.
full scale that I want can be able to mensure +-11.5 mV

    Channel 3 and 4:
    single ended input
I want can be able to mensure from 500mV to 1000mV

    Channel 5 and 6
    Not defined yet

    Thanks.

  • Hi Pedro,

In general, the ADS131M0x family should be able to measure these inputs with the specifications given.

That being said, have you looked through the bio-potential ADCs? Something like ADS1292 has ways to synchronize multiple ADCs together if you have not expanded your search for lower channel count but the potential to synchronize multiple devices together. Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on those so you might need to find a device family and ask some E2E questions on those device families.

Otherwise, there's not a whole lot in the precision ADC space with that bandwidth, channel count, and simultaneously sampling all wrapped up into one device that's perfectly tailored to bridge and temperature applications. Sometimes its nice to have features such as IDACs to help with bridge circuits or 50/60Hz rejection but the ADS131M0x does not have those integrated.

Let me know what you think.

    Best,

    -Cole
