ADS8354EVM-PDK: Cannot communicate with ADS8354EVM-PDK

Part Number: ADS8354EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8354,

Hello,

We are trying to install the ADS8354EVM-PDK software on a Windows 10 machine and use it to evaluate the ADS8354.  The LEDs on the SDCC are blinking as described in the manual (D5 on, D2 blinking).  After installing the PC software and rebooting, we are unable to communicate with the SDCC ("Unable to connect to the Hardware..."), and can only use the software in "Simulation Mode".  We've tried this on two different Windows 10 PCs with the same result.  One thing that we noticed is that the installer didn't specifically mention that it installed the NI drivers so we suspect this might be an issue.  There are probably pre-existing NI drivers for other software on both of the machines that we tried.  Can you provide us with any guidance?

Thanks,

-Mark

  • Hi Mark,

Having updated NI VISA drivers may help here. I would recommend updated to the latest version if possible. Additionally, can you share a screenshot of the device manager? How is the EVM displayed in the device manager? If using Windows 10, it very possible that the drivers are not signed. Win10 requires drivers to be signed and you may need to disable this and then reinstall the drivers.

  • Aaron,

Here is a screen shot of the device manager.  The EVM is showing up as "Other devices --> Generic Bulk Device".  When I right click and select properties, a dialog box says "... There are no compatible drivers for this device...".  How should I go about reinstalling the drivers if they are not signed?

  • Hi Mark,

It's likely that you need to point to the SDCC driver. To do this, can you right-click on the Generic Bulk Device and go to Properties. Next, to to the Driver tab and then click on Update Driver. Then click on Browse my computer for drivers. It will then ask to point to the driver. You will need to find the SDCC folder in the ADS835xevm folder crated during installation and point to the TI_USB.inf driver.

Please let me know if this works. I am trying to get ahold of an EVM on my side to see if I can re-create this connection issue.

  • Aaron,

I tried the method you describe, and it didn't work.  Windows said something to the effect of "Unable to install drivers..."  I also tried running driverinstall.exe in the "SDCC Driver" directory and it says that the the TI and NI drivers failed to install.  I also tried disabling driver signature enforcement in Windows 10, but that is not allowed by our company IT policy.  I might try to find an older PC to use and see if that will work.

  • Hi Mark,

Sorry to see this hasn't worked. Again, it it likely due to the driver signature. I would try and locate a Windows 7 PC if you cannot disable the driver signature. Our team software lead is out until next Tuesday but then they return, I can see if we can look into the driver signature from our end. If it is in-fact unsigned, we may be able to sign it but until then, I am just speculating.

  • Hi Mark,

In case you aren't able to locate a Win7 PC, I was successful in obtaining some signed drivers for the SDCC. Please see the attached file in this post.

To update the driver manually, we'll take a bit of a different approach from my previous post. In the device manager, please right click on the generic bulk device and click on Update Driver. From there, click on Browse my computer for drivers --> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer --> Have Disk. Finally, click on Browse and then manually select TI_USB-WV5.inf from the attached folder. This should install the signed SDCC drivers and allow you to connect to the GUI. Please let me know if this still does not help.
