I'm referencing to the TI EVM board: DAC3XJ8X EVM for one of our design.

Regarding the VCXO, is there a special requirement for it??

The VCXO phase jitter used in this EVM board is at : 40fs @100MHz. If I select the other part: VG5032EDN 122.88 MHz CJGHBA. the phase jitter is at : 0.3ps .

can you please help let me know if I can use it?? or are there other critical specs I need to pay attention?

Hi,

The VCXO is providing the reference to the LMK04828, which provides the clock to the DAC37j84. The jitter performance of the DAC37j84 is dependent on your applications needs. You may refer to the following app note to understand your noise requirement.

You can then go to LMK04828 web page to search for clocking tools to determine the VCXO requirements with the support of the LMK04828 software tool.

Thank you for the link. and do you mean the "Clock Design Tool"? After I set it up, it only shows the frequency selection, not mention about the clock jitter requirement.

Or do you mean other tools??

Also from the DAC37j84 data sheet, there is the NSD parameter listed. Since the DAC noise performance related with clock jitters in high frequency range, what clock jitter used in the data sheet test condition??

Hi Li,

The test was done using R&S spectrum analyzer and measured the noise floor at 70MHz away from the carrier. The test clock source is the HP 8644 series signal generator.
