AFE4404EVM: Cannot connect to EVM after installing on Windows 10

Part Number: AFE4404EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE4404

I am using the AFE4404EVM. I have followed the instructions to install the EVM GUI ver 1.2.2, NI runtime 14.0.1.4027,

USB drivers, and I have updated the Firmware for the MSP430 on the EVM. Each of these steps did not indicate error.

I am able to run the GUI can run the GUI in simulation mode.

However, when attempting to run GUI with EVM attached, I always get the following error:

The firmware was updated using the C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\AFE4404 EVM GUI\Firmware Updater\BSL_USB_GUI.exe and image C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\AFE4404 EVM GUI\Firmware Updater\AFE4404_EVM_FW_V1.5.txt

The Appropriate COM port and driver:

PC operating system is Windows 10 Version 21H2 (OS Build: 19044.2006)

Please provide a set of Firmware and GUI and instructions that work together,

Best Regards,

Steve

  • Hi Steven,

Let's go over a couple of the preliminary questions to make sure the essentials are executed:

One method that has worked for for customers is disabling the Windows driver signature enforcement, this can usually be done via safe mode.

Please let me know how these go for you. I'll be going re-going through the installation process on my end to test if I get a similar result.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z

  • Hi Nick,

Thank you for your reply.  I have .NET 3.5 installed and Python 2.7.

I have tried disabling the Windows driver signature enforcement, and now I have been able to use the board, but with the error still showing occasionally.

This is good progress, but I would still like to solve the issue completely as the set-up is unreliable.

    Best Regards,

    Steve

  • Hi Steven,

I'm glad to see that you can get some utility from the EVM. Let's see if we can identify where the issue lies:

    • Did you use all default values when installing the EVM?
    • Could you further expand on when the "occasional" error occurs? Perhaps it's when you close and immediately try opening the application, perhaps it's right after startup, any extra information here would help us out in finding the cause.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z
