ADS131M08EVM: Communicating with 2 EVMs via GUI and SPI

Part Number: ADS131M08EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131M08

We purchased 2x ads131m08evm. Is it possible to connect two modules to the same computer for data collection using the GUI?

We ultimately plan to communicate with the modules via SPI. I have implemented the psuedocode in the ads131m08 datasheet using Python, and am powering the EVM via USB through the PHI. The DRDY pin does not go high after boot up indicating the chip is ready to accept SPI commands. I have verified this using an oscilloscope. When the EVM is connected to a computer via USB through the PHI and the GUI is launched, the DRDY pin goes high shortly after the GUI lainches and begins functioning as described in the datasheet. Is there additional configuration needed to utilize SPI on the EVM rather than using the PHI? I'm currently trying to get a single unit to function and will add the second unit once I have 1 working.

  • Hi Nick,

The EVM GUI software does not support synchronously communicating with two EVMs and collecting data from them.

When your own controller is used instead of the PHI card in the EVM kit, you have to provide external power supplies to the ADC/EVM:

    • An external 3.3V power supply can be connected to JP12, then a jumper is needed between pin 1 and 2 on the JP12 header.
    • A 3.3V power supply is needed for IOVDD which can be connected to the test point TP1.

    Best regards,
