DAC8811EVM-PDK: DAC8811EVM-PDK

Part Number: DAC8811EVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DXP, DAC8811EVM

Case Number:  CS1368629

I hope the Texas Instruments team can look into my first post with the Case Number CS1368629.
I had already installed the software NIVISA1401full. The software starts without the Eval Kit connected. As soon as I connect the kit to the PC via USB, the error message shown in Figure 2 appears.
I think the USB Driver isn´t installed correct.
Can you please help me to get the DAC8811-EvalKit up and running? Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Ewin,

Please refer to this forum post addressing the issue.

Please reach out if you have further questions.

  • Hello Support Team!
I could not solve the problem, despite IT support. The DXP program does not work together with the MMBO board yet.
When starting the DAC Exerciser Program with the MMBO board connected via USB, the error message Error -1073807343 still appears.

If the board is not connected, the error message does not appear.
The USB driver is installed correctly, even if it appears as "Unkown Device #1".

Starting the computer in test mode with disabled driver signatures does not bring any change.
The error is the same. Are there any other possible solutions?
Which version of NI-VISA must be installed?

    With kind regards
    Erwin Gais

  • Hi Erwin,

To preface, this software is very old and was designed to work on Windows 7/XP. I cannot promise that we can find a workaround for you.

You can try installing NI-VISA library 14.0.1 https://www.ni.com/en-us/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-visa.html#306025. I found a thread where this was recommended before. I don't think it is a good sign that the board appears as unknown. That would lead me to think that the drivers are not installed/not being recognized.

You can also try installing these support packages that are linked in this thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/data-converters-group/data-converters/f/data-converters-forum/596296/dac8832evm-software-download-problem-with-dxp

I usually suggest that you can use any SPI controller that you have access to. You would just need to wire up the SPI pins on the EVM by hand.

  • Hello Katlynne,

thank you for the answer. The driver is installed. When the board is not connected, it does not appear in the device manager.
I bought the DAC8811EVM PDK so we don't have to write SPI - code ourselves, the software developers are busy.
Why is the board sold when it is obsolete and does not work with current Windows environment?
If TI cannot offer a working workaround, then I will return the board. The effort already exceeds the actual advantage of an Evalboard.

    With kind regards

  • Erwin,

I think Katlynne is out of the office today (and possibly the rest of the week because of the holiday here in the U.S).

I'm sorry that the board isn't working for you. Again, these boards were developed in the days of Windows XP. We don't always have the resources to update everything for new versions of Windows or different microcontrollers when components become obsolete. This EVM has supported the device for nearly 20 years, and while the software may be old, the board still is useful when connected to a different SPI controller. That's why the board is still available.

  • Hi Erwin,

Is it alright if I send you an email to the email address you have associated with your myTI account?  Is there a better email address I would like to reach out an see if we resolve this offline.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • @Joseph Wu,

it's fine to keep selling the board, but it's missing the information that it only works for WinXP.
We didn't want to write software for eval! Now we wasted a lot of time trying to run the software!

    @Paul_Frost
Send address that matches my myTI account linked email address for more info.
    Thanks so much!
