ADS5547: spacegrade ADC/DAC

Hello!

I am looking for spacegrade ADCs and DACs to use in LEO on a CubeSat. Working in the VHF frequency range. I am not sure if ADS5547 is spacegrade, but it has some desirable specs for us. Looking for very high sample rates, minimum 10 MSPS but desiring >100 MSPS. Just 1 CH will be used. Also looking for DACs to do transmit of the VHF. We will be using a switch between receive and transmit. I'd appreciate any help and direction since I am no expert in ADC.

Hi Abby, I'd have a look at the ADC1455QML-SP for the ADC and DAC5675A-SP for the DAC. Let us know if you find these don't work for you.

What type of ADC is this, a SAR, delta-sigma or something else?

Is there a reason why the ADC doesn’t also transmit? I imagine there could be switching or noise issues?

Looks like the purchase minimum qty is 14? We are just doing a one-off project for now.

Hi Abby,

The ADC is a pipeline architecture. Not sure I understand your other question on the ADC transmit. Can you explain further?

OK, does it use some sort of time-interleaved method?

I'm just curious why that ADC model isn't 2-way. Maybe that is a common thing, sorry I am new to really trying to understand ADCs.

Hi Abby,

The ADC is a receiver only. Is that what you are asking?

No interleaving is used in the ADC1455 device.

The DAC is not related to the ADC. It takes a completely different architecture to design and build a DAC versus an ADC. Both chips are popular though.

Ok got it thanks. I noticed for the ADC, the purchase quantity minimum seems to be 14, is that correct?

I don't believe there is a purchase minimum on the ADC14155QML-SP.

That's the maximum per Tube. Try to order the amount you need. I think it will allow.

ADC14155W-MPR is an engineering model, meaning its meant for prototyping. Same space package and die, but no space assurances or screening. (so its cheaper)

ADC14155W-MLS is a flight model (meant for flight). This was the original release for space flight, screened using a screening level we referred to as MLS. This is similar or equivalent to QML class V but either hasn't gone through DLA review or had a few minor 'misses' to full class V.

5962R0626201VXC is similar to the ADC14155W-MLS flight part, but we went through the paper work and review with the US DLA (defense logistics agency) to get a DLA part number assigned (which means they have reviewed and agreed we followed QML class V standards 100%)
