ADS4122: ADS4122 DRGND connection

Part Number: ADS4122

Hi,

I have analog ground and digital ground on the board.

do I need to connect the DRGND to the analog ground or the digital ground.

I usually connect the the digital ground of converter to the analog ground plane but in this devise there are many digital signal between the DRGND and the analog area.

Pls. advise how to make this connection..

  • Hi Zeev,

We don't really recommend a split analog and digital ground. But if you are forced into this situation, I would keep the digital section of the ADC on the digital ground, as I assume the digital outputs would connect to an FPGA or similar which is connected to the digital ground. That way you will minimize the ground loop in that section of the board.

Furthermore, I would add a few tie points nears the ADC between the analog and digital ground planes, so you can connect the two together. Typically you will find out this needs to be done in order for the ground return currents to resolve themselves.

    Regards,
