ADS8688: On The Fly Programmable Input Range

Part Number: ADS8688

Hello,

I have an external 4:1 mux going into one channel of the ADC. The mux is switching through all of its 4 inputs after some time. Is it possible to reprogram the input range on the ADC after each time the Mux's input is changed? Basically, can I create 4 additional input channels of programmable input ranges using one channel of the ADC?

  • Hello Stanley,

    Thank you for your post.

Yes, it is possible to reprogram the input range setting for a given channel. The important consideration is to allow time for the input voltage to the ADC to settle whenever the external MUX setting is changed. This settling time will depend on the R-C characteristics of the MUX output. The input of the ADS8688 will remain as high-impedance (i.e. 1 Mohm).

    Regards,
