DAC53204W: DAC53204W as current sink

First, I want to know what the main difference between DACx3004 and DACx3204 series is? The datasheets look awfully similar.

Second, I have found the in this doc, https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaae28a/slaae28a.pdf DAC53004/63004 are used as current sink to drive LED. Meanwhile, in this doc https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaae49/slaae49.pdf DAC43204/53204/63204 are used as current source. Are they interchangeable? I mean, both series can work in either way? We have a compact design in which we hope to use DAC53204W as current sink as DACx3004 does in the former document. Could this be implemented?

    Hi Ma, 

    The DACx3004 family is a low power version of the DACx3204 family. The DACx3004 datasheet will show lower power consumption in the electrical characteristics table and it also has an ultra low power mode that can be configured when the DAC is not actively being used. 

    Yes the two families can be used interchangeably in the two architectures from the documents you linked. We just wanted to showcase both devices. 

    If you are interested in the low power device, we are also releasing a WCSP version of that as well. DAC53004W and DAC63004W. It should be showing up online sometime this month. It is in the signoff phase now.
