DAC38J82EVM: Front End configuration Regarding

Hi,

in evaluation board DAC38J82EVM the front end is provided with a balun and a transformer configuration as shown below. Is this configuration necessary or shall I proceed with a 1:2 transformer configuration alone in my design development. Is there any betterment in performance using this balun and transformer configuration.

Hi,

In the related Query it said that To reduce the capacitance for high frequency output signals, the balun was added to the board design. Depending on the output frequency, that part may not add any improvement in performance.

Is it to reduce the capacitance of the board or the DAc's.

Hi Deva,

This balun was used to improve phase imbalance of this output network. Phase imbalance will affect HD2 worse at higher frequencies and as a result, reducing phase imbalance to as low as possible is best practice. A standard transformer should be fine such that it performs well within your desired operating range (and with such a nice performing transformer, the balun T2 can be bypassed entirely).
