ADS1261EVM: Delta-Sigma ADC Evaluation Software: Stuck at Identification

Part Number: ADS1261EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1261

Hi,

I just installed Delta-Sigma ADC Evaluation Software for the first time on my company PC including the GUI, packages (also checked if they are in the right directory) and driver,
When i plug the card before launching the app, the startup becomes slower and after that it freezes way too often,
In the "Device" tab i get blank registers even though bellow i have the "Hardware connected. Ready ..." message,

I updated Net framework and the bulk device driver but that didn't fix the problem, i also tried disabling the firewall to see if it's blocking anything,

  • Hi abdellah,

The primary support engineer who supports this ADC is visiting customers this week and he will return to office next Monday, he may have more experience on such issue. Please allow a delay for the response. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Dale

  • Hi abdellah,

Welcome to the E2E forum!  It appears that you have done a number of things to try and troubleshoot.  One thing to check is do you have administrator rights on the PC you are using?  To properly install you need to have administrator rights.  Also the main GUI needs to be installed first, and then the device package.

The driver appears to be installed properly, and does connect but the firmware does not appear to be responding to the ID command (under the Console tab).  Can you show me the contents inside the ADS1261 folder?

Also, under the DSEvalSW folder you should see another folder called Logs.  Can you zip up the logs folder and attach the zip folder to your response in your next post?

    Thanks,

    Bob B

  • Hi Bob,

I don't always have admin rights but i had them for the entire week when i installed the GUI and package,

I will leave the files you requested attached,

    Thanks,

  • Hi abdellah,

The log is showing the proper sequence for startup, but then fails to give the proper response.  We should verify that the GUI installation completed correctly.  Please attach the file 'DSEvalSW-installLog.log'.  This file can be found under the folder:

Program Files (x86) > Texas Instruments > DSEvalSW

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • Hi abdellah,

The GUI software installed as expected but there was an error with the driver installation.  At the beginning of the thread you said you updated the driver.  Can you explain what process you used to update the driver?

This is a very unusual issue, so please be patient.  Open the GUI and from the File drop down select Options.  From the Options window select Log and for the Log settings and adjust log item visibility properties choose Full_Detail for each item and click ok. Shut down and then with the hardware plugged into the USB restart the GUI.  This will regenerate the startup log files with additional information.  As was done in an earlier response, zip up the Logs folder from the DSEvalSW folder and attach to your next reply.

Something else you can try is to use a different or new USB cable.  Also, if available, try another USB port on the computer.  If you are connected to an external hub try connecting directly to the computer.

There is a program from MS called usbview  that is very useful for troubleshooting USB issues:

  • Hello,

after i installed the driver from the GUI's folder i went to windows' device manager and auto-updated it,

I already tried changing the usb cable and usb port,

Right now for some reason the logs aren't updating, the latest date there is the same as the previous one i sent you,

  • Hi abdellah,

Just so I am clear, you are looking at the DSEvalSW folder under Documents correct?  If the logs aren't changing, this sounds like the association between the GUI and the folder under Documents are not matching.  In the first post there was a location showing that the location is based on the location showing under the Users folder.  You need to make sure that the current Documents folder you are using matches with the same as the Users location you have in the GUI.

Here is what could have happened.  The admin you were using for the install sets you up to a different Users location than the one you would now normally use.  Your current User document folder needs to match the GUI location.  Search to see if you have more than one DSEvalSW folder on your computer.

  • Hi Bob,

I was looking for the logs in the program files folder sorry for that, the ones in my users' were updated alright and i will be sensing them right now,

as for the admin rights, i didn't change useres while installing the software i was just given temporary admin rights for the same user,

  • Hi abdellah BOUDERBA,

Bob is out of the office for the day, he will review the log files on Monday. Thank you for your patience

  • Hi abdellah,

Thanks for the logs which shows that the required client socket cannot be established.  This is usually due to the port already being accessed by another process.  Unfortunately the GUI has the socket attempting to connect to port 11000 and this port is not selectable and is fixed within the GUI.  To verify if there is a socket already opened to this port you can open a CMD command prompt window and type 'netstat - a -b' to show a list of all ports being in use.  Slowly search through the list of devices for a TCP address ending with ':11000'.

Another possibility is your security software may be blocking the opening of the client socket.

    Best regards,

    Bob B
