ADC128S102: ADC128S102, minimum sample rate

Part Number: ADC128S102

Is the minimum sample rate 50 ksps for this part?  I know it is for the -SP space version of this part.

The data sheet is confusing, it says the minimum sample rate (continuous)  is 500 ksps and typical sample rate (continuous)  is 50 ksps.  That doesn't make sense.  I suspect it's a misprint.

 500 ksps.

  • Hi Kenneth,

Yes, that is a typo.  It's due to the way that National Semi did their datasheets, here is the original page:

The original datasheet uses Typical and Limits as column headings.  The limits were based on the conditions at the top of the page.  When the TI formatting was done, the transposition took place, so we'll look into getting that fixed.  Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

  • Thank you for getting back to me.

One question though, is the minimum sample rate 500 kHz or 50 kHz?

The reason I ask is because the ADC128S102-SEP (rad-hard part) has a minimum sample rate of 50 sps (would you verify that though).  It's sample rate range is 50 ksps to 1 Msps.

Why is the -SEP part's range different from the COTS part's range?  the -SEP part's wider range would seem to indicate a higher-performance part, usually it's the other way around, you give up performance for rad-hardness.

Is the COTS ADC128S102 minimum sample-rate 50 ksps?

    Regards,

    Ken

  • I made a typo, the -SEP minimum range is 50 ksps, not 50 sps.

  • It would be 50 ksps.  You may actually be able to go a little slower, but the issue of leakage on the sample and hold capacitor starts to come into play.
