ADS1204: Use REFOUT directly for REFIN and negative side input

Part Number: ADS1204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA336

Hi,

We are using the ADS1204 to acquire single-sided signals on the positive side inputs. Can we connect REFOUT directly to REFIN and all negative side inputs (CH A-, CH B-, CH C-, CH D-) without issue? Specifically, can REFOUT maintain the 2% accuracy indicated in the datasheet when driving the input impedance of the negative side inputs?

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for your question! The electrical characteristics table (Section 6.5) in the datasheet assumes that REFOUT is tied to REFIN, so yes, REFOUT will range from 2.45V (min) to 2.55V (max) and maintain this 2% accuracy when connected to REFIN. As for also connecting it to negative input channels, CH x-, in the datasheet, it looks like REFOUT is being connected to an OPA336 buffer before it is tied to CH x- inputs. This is an older part and the information I have is limited, so I would recommend following this datasheet schematic suggestion of using a buffer, to ensure the specifications are being met.

    I hope that helps.

    Best,

    Samiha
