DAC8760: AC8760 power-up procedure not followed

Part Number: DAC8760

While reviewing the DAC8760 datasheet, I noticed that there is a power-up procedure.

It is specified that AVDD power must be supplied first and DVDD power must be supplied later. How does the DAC8760 operate if the conditions are not met?

  • Hi Han,

We did not characterize a specific list of behavior with a not recommended power-up sequence. There may be trouble communicating with the device or a faulty output, but a software reset may be able to resolve any issues you see, once the power supplies are stable.

Let me know if you have any other concerns!

    Thanks,
    Lucas

  • Han,

The device has an internal power-on-reset that holds the digital section in reset so the digital is powered up into a known good state. For that reason, we generally recommend bringing up the analog supply (AVDD) first, and then the DVDD, so the power-on-reset for the digital is the last to release. If the supply comes up in the opposite order, or there is a possibility that the digital is not set correctly and the device powers up without with the wrong settings (wrong modes, default register settings, and internal trim).

However, in the datasheet describing the sequence (Section 10, page 52) there is an additional recommendation. If the power up sequence cannot be followed, "issue a software reset command using the SPI bus after both AVDD and DVDD are stable". This reset should restore the device to the proper initial state.
