DAC43401: CWG frequency accuracy

Part Number: DAC43401

Hi team,

My customer need a PWM signal which has 100us +/-5% of cycle period and 5us +/-5% of pulse width.

What is the accuracy for DAC43401's CWG? Is there a Smart DAC device that can achieve above requirement?

Best Regards,

  • Hi Hirai-san,

Unfortunately I am not seeing a way to get a 10kHz frequency with 5% duty cycle. To get faster duty cycles we need to make larger code steps which reduces the possible duty cycle resolution. I'm not seeing a combination of code step and time step that will give a 5% duty cycle.

In addition, the output buffer of the DAC which acts as a comparator in this application runs into issues with smaller duty cycles at faster frequencies due to the limited response time of the buffer output.

There may be the chance that the AFE43902 can meet this requirement. It has a PWM output with configurable duty cycle based on an analog input. The customer could configure the duty cycle to always be 5% for any analog input. This device would still have a +/-10% frequency error however, same as the DAC43401.
