ADC12DJ3200EVM: External clocking support

Part Number: ADC12DJ3200EVM

We want to try syncing the clocks between our signal generator and this device. From what I can tell on the documentation, the only way this can be done is by enabling external clocking which requires a few board modifications (swapping out a resistor and a couple capacitors) My question is, is this assumption correct or is there a different way to sync the clocks? And if this is the only way to do that, will the default internal clocking still be usable after making the board modification or are we stuck with external clocking at that point?

Also for C49 C52 and R70 exactly which parts are required? Or are the capacitors and resistor at C50 C51 and R67 being moved to those new locations.

Thanks

  • Hello Robert,

Yes to synchronize your clocks so there is no drift you will need to enable external clocking by making the resistors and capacitors swap. Yes on board clocking will still be available to use after you make the external clock modifications, you will just have to make the necessary modifications to switch back.

For the values of the capacitors I would use 0.1uF these are just AC coupling caps, for the resistor R70 you can just use a 0 ohm resistor. This resistor is just used to change the clock source path.

    Best,
