ADC128S102: Floating Inputs

Part Number: ADC128S102

What is the effect on the ADC128S102WGRQV if one of analog inputs (IN0, IN1, ...IN7) is left floating?  Is there a current increase in the VA supply through the device in this scenario?  What is the magnitude of the supply current for this scenario?

What is the effect on the ADC128S102WGRQV if one of digital inputs (SCLK, DIN, CSn) is left floating?  Is there a current increase in the VA supply through the device in this scenario?  What is the magnitude of the supply current for this scenario?

  • Hi Chau,

    Thanks for your question.

Leaving an analog input floating is not going to have an impact from the analog supply perspective. It should result in normal current draw. Leaving one of the digital lines floating (at least /CS and SCLK) may cause the current draw to reduce since without these lines, the device won’t be doing anything (i.e., no conversions, so no conversion current consumption). When DIN is not applied, the ADC will either keep sampling whatever the last commanded channel was or perhaps some random channel since there would not be a defined channel selected while DIN is floating.

    I hope this helps.

    Best,
