ADS7038-Q1: Safety Feature in ADS7038 when Microcontroller's SPI line becomes unresponsive

Part Number: ADS7038-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7038,

Hello TI Team

Is there any Safety feature in ADS7038 where it can still control the 8 Channels to a default state when the Microcontroller suddenly goes powerless ?

Currently we are controlling the states of a pin using the SPI commands but would like to know if there is any feasibility to make a pin connected to the external ADC to a default state when the SPI line becomes unresponsive or the controller turns of suddenly.

Thanks and Regards

  • Hi Supritha,

There is nothing inside the ADS7038-Q1 that would be able to alert you to an issue with the SPI communication.  You could potentially use one of the analog inputs as a GP output and set it to output logic 1.  If you were to loose power to the ADS7038-Q1, the reset would return that channel to an analog input and it might be a viable way to detect a fault.
