ADS8681: Comparison with ADS8691

Part Number: ADS8681
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8691,

I am in requirement of an integrated frontend ADC with around 14 to 14.5 ENOBs. During my search the ADS8681 seems like a perfect fit with INL of around 1.2 LSB. While exploring possibilities to have a couple bits more resolution I started looking at the ADS8691. But it has worse error rates putting it closer in terms of ENOBs to the ADS8691.

Am I correct in this assessment?

Thanks for any help and guidance.

  • Hello Nilanjan,

    Thank you for your post.

Which error specifications are you specifically comparing? Keep in mind that the ADS8691 is an 18-bit device, so any error specifications in terms of "LSBs" will appear as larger numbers when compared to the same specifications of a 16-bit ADC.

    Regards,

    Ryan

  • I am comparing both of their INL errors. I will admit that mentioning ENOBs is not necessary in this case since its more of related to SFDR (AFAIK). But seeing ADS8681 has INL (max) of 1.5 and and ADS8691 has INL (max) of 3.25 puts them closer in terms of this error per my understanding.
