ADS131E08: Proper configuration of unused GPIO

Part Number: ADS131E08

Hey PADC team,

I have a customer evaluating the ADS131E08 for a new design and we were hoping you could provide guidance on how to handled the unused GPIO pins.

The DS mentions that they should be connected to DGND with a 10kOhm resistor if unused. Does each unused GPIO pin have to have it's own dedicated 10kOhm resistor connection to GND?

In this case, GPIO1:4 are unused and we are wondering if these GPIOs can be tied together and then connected to 1x 10kOhm resistor to GND.

Please advise.

  • Hi Matt,

I do not think this is very critical but I would check with team, I will get it back to you soon.

  • Thanks for the reply Dale!

Please let us know once confirmed with the design team.

  • Hi Matt,

As one of my colleagues commented "You could probably get away using a single resistor connected to all GPIO pins. The only potential issue would be if more than one GPIO became an output inadvertently to cause driver contention if one output was high and one was low", however it seems that the customer will not use these four GPIOs. If my understanding is correct, connecting them to GND via a single resistor will be okay because these GPIO pins will be automatically set as inputs after power up or after a reset.
