ADS1232: Weight Scale input and reference filter consultation

Part Number: ADS1232

Tool/software:

Dear whomever may read this,

I'm currently working on a prototype for a weight scale for the company I work at, I've been looking around the flora of 24-bit delta-sigma ADCs and currently I'm looking at the ADS1232.

I've been reading white papers, datasheets, articles and such and I'm currently struggling a little with the design for input and reference filters for the low speed ADC.

I can write out a longer question here on the forums about my concerns but I was wondering if there are ways to do of forums connections and direct company to company design consultation.

If this type of post is inappropriate then please just let me know, I simply didn't find any other way to reaching out.

  • Hi Gabriel Voluson,

The e2e forum will be the best place to support you, please post your questions here

You can also reference our resistive bridge measurement design guide for more information: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sbaa532a/sbaa532a.pdf?ts=1718897375468

  • Dear Bryan,

that's one of the guides I've been reading and while it's very good I'm still unsure on the filters for the input and reference pins of ADCs. I talked to the customer support chat yesterday and expressed wanting to reach out privately, they said this was an option. This is mostly to because currently my questions feel a little to general to be of help on the forums.

I'd be very happy to take the matters to the forums at a later date when the questions become more specific so at it may benefit other users of the forum.

I received this response from support "After creating your thread, our product line expert will provide a method to communicate privately as needed."

Again I hope this is okay, this would be the best support I could receive to get more specific, thank you very much.

  • Hi Gabriel Voluson,

Private chat is for sharing sensitive information that you do not want posted on the public forum. Since that is not the case here and your questions are general, the forum will be the best place to support your questions.

You may also reference this document for more information about the filtering components: https://e2e.ti.com/support/data-converters-group/data-converters/f/data-converters-forum/955466/faq-delta-sigma-adc-anti-aliasing-filter-component-selection

  • Thank you once again Bryan, I've also taken a look at that document as well as watched some precision labs. I'm grateful for the patience and sorry for my unclarity.

I guess I am unsure what is classified as sensitive information, I originally came to the forums to ask whether there is a way to receive company to company consolation. By that I meant in assistance to getting a product to market, the details of which could be classified as sensitive information. I felt weird about posting that on the forum as there wasn't a simple question behind that, and that has been my experience to forums to ask particular questions and not what could be classified general or sensitive.

Again I apologize for my unclarity, I tend to find posting on public forums often uncomfortable like speaking on stage and rush my words. But let me ask this distilled question, is that a gateway or channel for companies to get consultation on integrating TI IC's into their projects, with private consultation.

Thanks again Bryan, I've read a lot of your articles in fact and find myself a little "starstruck" as they are very good but I still don't feel I could integrate everything effectively on my own as some of the details are a little out of my area of expertise.

  • Hi Gabriel Voluson,

Thanks for clarifying what you are after

The private messaging is really for sharing confidential info that will help us diagnose an issue with one of our devices. We generally don't offer design services because we assume that the end user of our products is the system expert (and TI is not), while we are the device experts (and the end user is not).

So we can make device suggestions with respect to the signals you are trying to measure, or other system requirements. We can help you troubleshoot an issue when you build a board with our devices, or you use one of our evaluation modules. We can recommend certain circuits to be used with our devices, such as power circuitry and/or signal conditioning circuits. But no, we are not really setup to be a design house, though I am sure there are many you can contract with. Of course, if you use any of our devices we will be happy to support you as best as possible using this forum (or any of the other e2e forums).

I hope this clears up what e2e is, and is not.

  • Thank you Bryan for the very good response, this is why initially I thought my post here inappropriate and as simply asking if such a service was available. I'm sorry for my confusion, I'll do more research on my part and perhaps post here again with the correct intentions, I thank you for the patience and for your time.

I could quickly ask you now to start my process, if my intended purpose for an ADC is pretty much real time precision weighing at a pretty sampling rate as I want the measurement to stabilize in around 500ms perhaps under a second with post processing. Is the ADS1232 a suitable device, or would you have other recommendations. Would one need any other design goals or specifications in order to reduce the selection choices ?

I hope to then get working on a design and post here again with specific questions.
