Defekt of the TCAN330DCNT

Part Number: TCAN330DCNT

Tool/software:

We have Fild Returns with a Broken TCAN330DCNT. The Lines CANh & CANL have low impedance to GND and the CAN-Bus is in error state. When removing our device, the remaining CAN bus works normally. We´ve checkt the ESD Protection ESDONCAN1LT1G but this part is still working.

From 1000 Delivered Units, we have 10 Broken Parts returned.

Are there any additional Protection mechanism we should implement?

Part of the Shematic.

  • Oliver,

It may be the case where there is a voltage transient activating our internal ESD structure before the external diode can respond, thus causing damage. Adding passive components like filter capacitors, series resistance, and CMC can also help mitigate voltage transient damage. We also have newer 3.3V CAN transceivers with better integrated ESD protection, the TCAN34xx family of devices. I'd recommend moving to these if possible, as they will help future-proof your design.

What kind of application is seeing these kinds of CAN bus transients?

    Regards,

    Eric Hackett
