ADS7138-Q1: Unable to retrieve the value from the register at a low temperature of -40 degrees

Part Number: ADS7138-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7138

Tool/software:

Hi

Our current system design uses three ADS7138 ICs, but during the low-temperature test, we found abnormal readings from one ADS7138 on one of the boards. The failure rate is approximately 1/30.

The IC functions normally if the temperature rises to -35 or -30 degrees and is restarted.

We compared the I2C waveforms and communication and found that the IC did not respond.

Have you encountered a similar issue before?

  • Hi Frank,

If this device is started at room temperature, then brought down to cold temperatures, are the failures still seen? Is the failure seen if the device is brought down to cold temperature, then restarted? If so, at what temperature have you found that the device fails? How consistently are you able to recreate this failure given a device you have identified as a failure?

    Regards,
    Joel

-> Frank: It will continue to function normally but will fail if restarted at -40°C. (please refer the table #5)

If so, at what temperature have you found that the device fails? How consistently are you able to recreate this failure given a device you have identified as a failure?

-> Frank: -40°C(Temp of chamber). 100% failure rate

  • Hi Frank,

I've reached out to your assigned field applications engineer via email to help resolve this issue. Let me know if they have not reached out to you by the beginning of next week.

    Regards,
    Joel
