DAC7554: VDD & REFIN

Part Number: DAC7554
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC7564, DAC63204, DAC60504

Tool/software:

Hello TI,

Currently I am working on a project that includes an Analog section that requires an Digital to Analog Converter to be interfaced with a microcontroller through SPI communication on 3.3V levels, while Output signals are based on 5V levels. So, after searching for the DAC IC, I thought that DAC7554 could be best option. But, while reading the Datasheet I noticed that VREF cannot be greater than VDD. In my case, VDD = 3.3V and VREF or VIO  = 5V

As an alternate, DAC7564 seems more promising, as it is mentioned in Datasheet that AVdd and IOVdd are separate supply rails. Am I on the right track for selection of DAC IC as per my requirements mentioned above? Or can you suggest any better alternative that perfectly suits my project requirements ?

Awaiting your response.

Thanks,
Priyanshu

  • Hi Priyanshu,

DAC7564 will work as you have mentioned. IOVDD can be 3.3V for your 3.3V SPI, and you can use 5V for VDD to achieve your 0V to 5V analog output.

I would recommend a newer device like the DAC63204 or DAC60504. DAC63204 can work with as low as 1.8V logic even with a 5V VDD, and DAC60504 has a VIO pin similar to the DAC7564. Both devices have a precision internal reference or allow for an external reference.

    Best,
