Hello.

I'm thinking of using the TPL0401B-10 as a voltage divider to provide a reference voltage to the BQ25730 on the CELL_BATPREZ pin and I'm wondering if I can feed the digipot with 3.3v at VDD while feeding it with 6v on the H pin of the potentiometer.

My question is if this will work.

Hi Flaco,

The I/O pins cannot exceed the VDD supplies. You could add an external resistor between the 6V input and the HA pin to pre-divide the input, but it doesn't look like that will give you the full control of the CELL_BATPREZ pin. We unfortunately do not have any digital potentiometers or unbuffered DACs that will work in that supply range.

The solution would work if you could use a 5.5V digipot supply and 5.5V VDDA supply.

Thanks for responding so quickly, I understand, but now I have another question if I feed VDDA and HA with 5.5v the voltage on the SDA and SCL pins would be the same respectively or 3.3v, if it is 5.5v should I use a voltage translator?

Hi Flaco,

Yes, you would need a level shifter. The VIH threshold for I2C is 0.7*VDD. This would be 3.85V with a 5.5V VDD, so the 3.3V I2C signals would need to be shifted up. Or if your MCU supports 5V logic then that will work as well.
