HSMC (Altera) Header Adaptor Card Compatible with ADS1606 EVM?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1606, HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE, 5-6KINTERFACE

Is the Altera HSMC Adaptor compatible with the ADS1606 EVM?  I'm wanting to interface the ADS1606 EVM to an Altera Cyclone IV Development Kit.  The bridge I'm looking at is:  http://www.ti.com/tool/hsmc-adc-bridge.  If it is not compatible, is there another part that is?

Thanks,

-Todd

  • Hi,

No, they would not be compatible.  The ADS1606 is supported out of our Precision ADC group, while the HSMC-ADC-Bridge was made to interface our High Speed ADC EVMs with LVDS outputs to the Altera development platforms.  I am not sure exactly what connector is on the ADS1606 EVM, but from looking at the EVM User Guide I can see that the outputs are single ended and lined up in a row down one side of the connector footprint.  Our LVDS pairs for the bridge card are lined up in LVDS pairs with a ground pin between them.

I can move this thread to the precision forum for them to comment on how you might connect to an Altera development platform.

  • Thanks Richard!

    Hi TW,

As Richard mentioned, the ADS1606 was not developed specifically to interface with the HSMC-ADC-Bridge, it actually used the 5-6KInterface board that was mounted directly to the TMS320C6713 DSK.  The only way to mount it up the HSNC Adapter at the moment would be to create a custom umbilical of sorts.
