ADS7052: SPI read with 24 clock cycles instead of 18 cycles

Part Number: ADS7052

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am wondering if it is strictly necessary to only toggle the SPI clock 18 times to take a measurement.  My design has an Atmel Mega 328 which only toggles SCK in multiples of 8.  I tried bit bashing SCK and reading MISO to compare between 24 and 18 cycles, and I get the same reading either way.  My reason for asking, is because I am getting gross errors in my measurements and trying to eliminate this as a possible cause.

regards,

Eddie
