ADS1278-SP: Radiation data clarification

Part Number: ADS1278-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1278

Tool/software:

Please may provide me which is the unit for limits of GAIN and INL parameters reported in the Radiation Test Report "ADS1278-SP Total Ionizing Dose (TID) Radiation Report" (SBAK008A –October 2018–Revised August 2019).

It is not clear to me how to read (+/-4924 for gain and +11.9 for INL).

Please clarify,

Best regards.

Massimo

  • Hello Massimo,

The units used in the TID report are ppm (parts per million).  You can convert these to units used in the datasheet as % of FSR by diving by 10000.

    (PPM/100000)*100%.

+/-4924ppm is the same as +/-0.4924% of FSR for gain error.

+11.9ppm is the same as 0.00119% FSR for INL.

  • Hello Nicholas,

just another question about another point relevant ADS1278-SP device.

Do you have burn-in test useful to extrapolate ageing data, in particular about the following parameter (Gain Error, INL and Offset Error)?

    Thank you,

    Massimo

  • Hello Massimo,

We do burn-in tests to simulate 10yrs of operation.  Take a look at this E2E FAQ for precision analog parts in general that can be applied to the ADS1278 family.

The main points of this article:

    • Specifications centered around zero or a mean value (like Vos, Vos Drift, Vref, AOL, CMRR, PSRR, etc.) may shift over 10-year life up to:

+/-100% of the max (min) PDS specified value

    • Specifications defined as an absolute value (like IQ, slew rate, Isc, etc.) may shift over 10-year life up to:

+/-10% of the max (min) PDS specified value
