DAC63202: OUTpin shorted issue.

Guru 10965 points
Part Number: DAC63202

Tool/software:

Hi team,

If an OPAMP is connected to the OUT0/1 and operated, the output will short after few hours of operation.
However, there is no similarity in the time of shortage.

Could you tell me about possible causes of shortage?

BR,
Kengo.

  • Kengo-san,

I'm not sure I understand this question. Can you provide a diagram of how the opamp would be connected? Is the opamp connected as a buffer or is it trying to drive an output.

In voltage output mode, the DAC63202 output can drive a 50mA to 60mA at the output in short circuit. This is a large amount of current and that in itself can cause problems for other devices if the current is routed into them.

Regardless, a circuit diagram would certainly help to understand what could be happening.

  • Joseph-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
I'm sorry for my lack of explanation.

This is a circuit around the output pin.
Could you give me any advises?

    BR,
    Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo-san,

This is unusual behavior. What are the supplies of the external op amp and what DAC output have you configured?

What is actually shorting in the circuit? And how are you determining that this is a short?

  • Hi Katlynne-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    Bellow is registers as setting.

      Register Default After
    1 COMMON_TRIGGER 0x0000 0x5A00
    2 COMMON_CONFIG 0x0FFF 0x1E03
    3 DAC_0_VOUT_CMP_CONFIG 0x0000 0x1400
    4 COMMON_CONFIG 0x0FFF 0x1003
    5 DAC_1_VOUT_CMP_CONFIG 0x0000 0x1400
    6 COMMON_CONFIG 0x1003 0x1001

I measured the resistance on the device itself.
*The value was the same in the mounting condition.

    Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo-san,

It looks like you are enabling current mode and voltage mode for channel 0. You should write 0x1201 to enable the internal reference and power on channels 0 and 1 in voltage output mode.
