TI-JESD204-IP: Missing 64b66b GTX reference design

Part Number: TI-JESD204-IP

Tool/software:

Hello,

we would to migrate from gtx_8b10b_rxtx.sv to gtx_64b66b_rxtx.sv. However, this file is missing in our TI JESD204 delivery. Is it possible that this file was added in later releases? Could you check?

If not exist nor planned to be created, can you guide us how to prepare it?

Thank you,

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

The TI JESD IP currently does not support 64b66b modes for GTX transceivers because the 64b66b gearbox is not included in the PHY macro. This needs to be implemented in the fabric. We are evaluating adding support for this, but the timeline for validation and release of the same is not yet decided.

    Regards,
    Ameet

  • Hi Ameet,

just to confirm, is this mode supported on your IP side, but the gearbox will be eventually added in gtx_64b66b_rxtx.sv? Is it realistic to implement this support by our own? For instance by taking the same port interfaces as in GTH 64/66 module? Unfortunately, without port visibility on gtx_64b66b_rxtx.sv boundary in vivado xsim, it will be hard, I guess.

    Regards, Michael

  • In TI204c-IP-User-Guide.pdf, there is the following statement:

While this is not explicitly listed, TI does support 64b/66b solutions for the GTX class transceivers. However, this
is a very customized solution and you are requested to reach out to TI support for a special delivery of the same.

Where can I ask for this delivery?

  • Hi Michael,

There was an initial plan to develop a 64b66b model, but that was ultimately not done as we have not had too many requests for this mode on GTX/GTP class transceivers. One option (as you have suggested) will be use the GTH design and replace the transceiver inside the gth wrapper with a GTX, You should find that the transceiver wrapper ports are similar across the GTH/GTY/GTX reference designs.
