ADS7128: Method for Calculating Conversion Time

Part Number: ADS7128

Hi, team.

The product page indicates a sampling rate of 140 ksps; however, the datasheet’s electrical characteristics section does not specify this value. Could you clarify the conditions under which the 140 ksps sampling rate is determined?

Best regards.

Tazoe

  • Hi Tazoe,

Sorry for the late reply, as I was off for Thanksgiving break in the United States.

This device handles conversions with an internal oscillator. The maximum sampling rate is 1MSPS.

However, due to the speed limitations of I2C, and given that each 12-bit ADC conversion is encoded in 2 I2C data bytes, manual conversions read over the I2C interface are limited to 140ksps.

If the device is operating in autonomous mode, it will convert at 1MSPS internally, but not all of those samples are able to be read over I2C, again due to the interface maximum speed limit.

    Regards,
    Joel
