ADS130E08: Daisy-Chain mode settings

Part Number: ADS130E08
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131E08

Dear Support Team.

Our customer is prototyping the ADS130E08.
On page 27 of the datasheet, when using "Daisy-Chain Mode," it says,
"Daisy-chain mode is enabled by setting the DAISY_IN bit in CONFIG1: Configuration Register 1. Figure 35b
shows the daisy-chain configuration."

However, CONFIG1 on page 34 does not mention the DAISY_IN bit.

Is this a datasheet error, as this is being reused from the 24-bit version of the ADS131E8?

When using the ADS130E08 in Daisy-Chain mode, is the hardware setting of the DAISY_IN1 terminal the only thing that matters?
b) In Daisy-Chain Configuration, the DAISY_IN1 pin is Low.
a) In Standard Configuration, is it okay to leave the DAISY_IN1 pin open and not fix it to High?

  • Hi Hiroaki Yuyama TED,

The DAISY_IN bit sets the device into daisy chain mode, as opposed to multiple readback mode. This occurs when DAISY_IN = 0b, which is the default setting. Therefore, the device is by default in daisy chain mode for both ADS130E08 and ADS131E08. It is possible the multiple readback mode is not available on the ADS130E08

If not using the daisy chain capability, the DAISY_IN pin should be connected to DGND. This is stated in the datasheet, which I highlighted below

  • Hello Bryan-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
I understand how to set the ADS130E08 in daisy chain mode.

If the customer does not use it in ADS130E08 daisy chain mode, it should be "a) In Standard Configuration" in Figure 35 on page 27 of the datasheet.

In that case, is it okay to leave CONFIG1: Bit6 at the default register setting of 0?

    Best regards,
    Hiroaki Yuyama

Yes this is fine, because the ADC does not use the DAISY_IN pin in the Standard Configuration. Make sure the DAISY_IN pin is connected to DGND in this case

  • Hello Bryan-san,

    Thank you for your answer.
I learned how to use the daisy chain mode of the 16-bit version of ADS130E08,
as well as what to do when not using it in daisy chain mode.

    Best regards,
    Hiroaki Yuyama

  • Hi Hiroaki Yuyama TED,

Thanks, I am glad we could help you
