ADS8558 Range Setting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8558

Hi,

I wanted to know if its possible to give a pulse to Range pin as in i want 4 channels to have 2Vref as input range and 2 channels to use 4vref input range so for that i need to give a pulse according to my needs. I havent tried yet but i think so that there would not be any problem.

  • Hi Vishal,

Since this is a 'new' question regarding the ADS8558, I split it off into a new thread.  If you are using independent CONVST inputs, you could possibly toggle the RANGE pin I suspect.  The new range setting kicks in when BUSY goes active, so it could not be a pulse - it would have to be more like a square wave.  We've never tried that ourselves either, so we'll chat with the part designers to get their thoughts on how this might work out.

  • Vishal -

As Tom said, pulsing the pin won't really work since when the pin setting takes effect is not straight forward.

However, if you use the software mode, you can control the range of CHA, B, and C separately.  Check out the control register map in the data sheet.

  • Actually i have made according to Parallel mode so it would be a bit difficult for me to change it now. Yes i am giving three different pulses to Convst_X pin according to my needs. I want 4vref for 2 channels and 2vref for 4 channels.should i use diff adc's that is one for 2vref and another for 4vref??
