ADS5400EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5400

1) Do the adaptor boards (shown for Xilinx & Altera) both come with the EVM?

2) Are there any of the main Xilinx or Altera boards that these adaptors don't work with? Or are these specifically designed for one or two of each?

3) Is the source code available? I saw that a few have requested and received the source code. Will the end customer need to request via forums?

  • Hi,

No, the adapter boards to the Xilinx or Altera development platforms are separate orderable items.  Most of our High Speed Data Converter EVMs that have LVDS outputs are suitable candidates for use with these adapter cards.

The ADC FMC adapter board for Xilinx  http://www.ti.com/tool/fmc-adc-adapter  was developed primarily for the ML605 development platform for Virtex, but other development platforms such as Spartan that have the FMC connector *may* be able to use the FMC adapter.  I have heard that the DDR clock signal from the TI EVM through the FMC adapter might not go to a global clock input to the Spartan, but Xilinx would be better suited to comment on which of their development platforms would work best with these adapter cards.  It was Xilinx that actually recommended the signal assignment into the FMC connector as they know what they have on their side of the connector.

The HSMC bridge http://www.ti.com/tool/hsmc-adc-bridge to Altera would have one limitation when considered for the ADS5400 EVM - the number of LVDS pairs physically available through the connector is not enough to use the ADS5400 in dual bus mode.  The ADS5400 EVM would mate up with the Altera development platform but you would have to use the ADC in single bus mode at a higher LVDS data rate.

We do not have source code for the development platforms.  That would be a matter for the FPGA vendor to address, as we do *not* have the various development platforms in house but those two FPGA vendors *do* have their own cross-vendor demonstrations available for TI high speed data converter EVMs hooked up with their development platforms.

What we *have* been able to supply on a request-only basis (if you provide an email address) is the source code for our TSW1200 capture card, which uses a Xilinx Virtex4.  The new TSW1400 capture card is based on an Altera Stratix 4, and we are planning to extract the ADC interface code from that design into a series of app notes, but that is not available at this time.  Also, the TSW1405 Capture Card is based on Lattice ECP3, and source code for that is made available on the Lattice web site.

    Regards,

    Richard P.
