ADS5444 is heated rapidly

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS5444

I'm using the ADS5444 for data acquisition,  using settings that handles Texas Instruments in its development board, however, in my circuit, heats up quickly even without working, is this normal?-

  • Hi,

Please let us know the situation in more detail such as sampling clock frequency, the clock level from external signal generator, IF frequency and IF input level. Your comment, "without working", means no input/clock applied to ADS5444EVM while power is being supplied?  After warming up, did it work well?

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hello,

In this case there is no clock input to ASD5444 nor differential input signal at AIN,

I'm just feeding the ADC. The ADS5444 is found as part of a design and is configured as shown in the development board "ADS5444EVM" Texas Instruments offers.

  • Hi,

Did you provide 3.3/5V of power supply with ADS5444EVM? I tried to duplicate your problem and I also found ADS5444 device got warm, not that hot, after plugging in power. This device is specified over the full industrial temperature range (-40~85C) and maximum junction temperature is 150C. Even though the device got warm, it functionally works well. This could be an minor issue of thermal pad on the bottom of IC. I'll check this with designer of this device.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hello,

Yes, I did. I provided 3.3/5V of power supply to ADS5444 . The footprint of the ADS5444 in the circuit is as recommended by the datasheet of this device, also has a thermal pad on the bottom.

    Thanks,
