HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE between ADS58C48 and Altera DE4 Dev Kit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS58C48, HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE, ADS58C28EVM

Hi,

I have a ADS58C48 high speed 4 channel A2D dev kit from TI, and is trying to connect it to a Altera DE4 (Stratix IV) dev kit via this Altera HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE.

It seems that the pinouts on the Bridge does not match the pinouts on the ADS58C48?

For instance the ADS58C48 has 4 channel of 6 pairs =24 pairs while the BRIDGE only has 16 LVDS Pairs. Also the pin numbers do not match. But according to TI website for the ADS58C48EVM, they recommend the use of the Altera HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE.

I have REV C of the Bridge, but the schematic is only REV B (on TI website), can this be the problem?

Thanks

  • Hi,

I'll check this and get back to you soon.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hi,

I compared Rev B and Rev C of HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE.  Rev B works well with ADS58C48 as it has 4 channels of interface but Rev C does not match with ADS58C48 output interface. You'll have problems with Rev C of HSMC-ADC-BRIDGE card. Please let me know how I can help you with this.

    Thanks,

    KW

  • Hi,

Can you send me the schematic for the HSMC Bridge REV B & REV C and ADS58C48EVM REV B. My email addr is mauritz.zondagh@za.saabgroup.com

(I have Bridge REV B, but would like to check against yours, i cannot find REV C of the Bridge, and the SCh for the evm FROM ti'S WEBSITE STATES REV A1, but my EVM is REV C)

Did you check the 4 channel A2D EVM compatibility with the HSMC Bridge REV B? If i look at the ADS58C28EVM (Dual channel 11 bit), the pins match the REV B HSMC Bridge, but not the 4 channel with REV B of the Bridge.

I think there is a problem, the bridge any REV do not support 4 channel EVM from TI? There is not enough pairs available on the Altera DEV Kit's on a single HSMC, and therefore the bridge only support 2 channel? Can you please check,

    Thanks

  • the hsmc-adc-bridge REV c does not support ADS58C48EVM Channel A or Channel B outputs, it connects them to ground.
Will connecting these outputs to ground damage the ADS58C48?
Do I need a hsmc_adc_bridge REV B that supports Channel A and B without grounding their outputs?
  • Hi Stephen,

HSMC_ADC_BRIDGE rev B has the same pinout as rev C, so that will not solve the problem. Note that channels A and D are tied to ground and B and C are connected properly. Register 0x41 can be used to power down the LVDS output buffers for channels A and D such that only B and C are active. The HSMC_ADC_BRIDGE can be used when the output buffers for channels A and D are powered down.

Another option is to use the TSW1400 as your development board. This board will allow use of all channels and contains memory for storing of data. The JTAG port can be used to download your own firmware.
