TI downloader issue with Windows 7

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSC1210Y5

Dear Experts,

Since I have changed my operating system from Win XP to Win 7, I am having an issue in using TI downloader . The downloader is not able to download the hex file into the MSC1210Y5 microcontroller, instead it keeps hang-up indefinitely as shown below .

With Win XP, this TI downloader was working perfectly fine.

Another thing which I am observing is that, If another instance of TI downloader will be opened (with first instance keeps open for a while and then shut down(close)), then (second instance of) downloader starts downloading the hex file correctly. (Strange…!)

Is thery any issue to use this downloader with Windows 7? Any idea, how could it be corrected or What wrong am I doing?

Regards

  • Asad -

I am not intimately familiar with this software, but as not noted, this software probably is not compatible with Win7.  This software was developed some time ago and has not been on the list to update, so it would be best if you just used it with the WinXP machine for the foreseeable future.

  • Asad,

The TI Downloader program was developed for downloading programs to the MSC12xxEVMs.  Some time ago the support model changed for these products, and the EVMs were made obsolete.  As a result, the software was not updated or verified for Win7.

Your screen shot shows 'Phoenix Downloader'.  As far as I know the TI developed software always shows 'TI Downloader', so I'm not sure of the origin of the software.  Also, the software version is shown as 1.0.0, and the latest version I have is 1.3.4, so you might try the later version.  The latest version and source code (in case you want to develop your own) can be found at:

    ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/data_acquisition/MSC_CD-ROM/DownLoader/

    Best regards,

  • Bob,

    Thanks for the reply.

Phoenix downloader is (our) cutomized version of TI downloader. I have downloaded the latest version 1.3.4 and source code from your given link, in case if we need to modify it.

I would prefer to use it with Windows XP machine then to avoid compatibility issue.
