I would like to design a board similar to the ADC10080 EVM that will contain some added circuitry and will interface to the WaveVision (like the ADC10080 EVM ).

What is the function of the EEPROM on the ADC10080 EVM ?

Is there any way I can trick the WaveVision to work with my board w/wo using an EEPROM ?

Yu,

The purpose of the EEPROM on the EVM is to indicate information specific to the EVM so that the WAveVision capture board can correctly configure itself with an FPGA image.

The ADC10080EVAL is only compatible with the WaveVision 4.4 data capture board and WaveVision 4 software. Using the EVM as a reference, a similar board may be designed and should include the EEPROM. Using the interface via the WaveVIsion 4.4 data capture board, the WaveVision 4 software can be used to program the EEPROM correctly. Once this is performed, the custom EVM should work within the WaveVIsion 4 environment.

To the best of your knowledge - Is the ADC10080 recommended for new designs or is it near EOL (or maybe you can think of a better option) ?

Hi Yu,

The ADC10080 family (including the ADC10040 and ADC10065) gets a lot of interest from customers, sells reasonably well, and occupies and strategic portion of the TI portfolio with few alternatives, so I don't think it will go EOL anytime soon.

Hi Josh,

I have a question regarding the 10080 supply,

I use a step-up to create the 3.3V for my system

Can I create from it VDDIO and VDDA to be used by the ADC10080 and THS4509 OPAMP ?

Any recommended filtering for these two supplies ?

Yu,

If by "step-up" you mean a switching boost regulator, then I think you should definitely use LDO regulators to bring the voltage down to 3V for the ADC. You should also use a ferrite or LC filter like (NFM41PC204F1H3) to separate the VDDA and VDDIO ADC supplies.

I don't think that you should use the LDO outputs for the ADC for the THS as well. I think you should either filter the boost regulator (and use an LDO if level shift is necessary), or have a separate boost reg.

I think I will take your advice and use a 3V LDO for the ADC.

I will filter the VDDIO and VDDA of the ADC with NFM21PC474R1C3D which has inferior performance but smaller footprint (compared to NFM41PC204F1H3).

I will also add several X5R caps (1u, 0.1u and 0.01u) to each of the voltages.

For the THS I will take the boosted 3.3V (which is also used by the L138 DSP) and filter it the same (NFM21xx and several X5R)

I think it sounds pretty good. I do not support the THS device, so I am not familiar with its supply sensitivity to a switching regulator, so I cannot comment on that aspect.
