DAC3162EVM DC coupled output

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC3162EVM

Hi everyone,

to output a dc value on a DAC3162EVM, do you see any problem just putting in the R6, R15 and R17 resistors without removing the transformer? also can I still use the 25 ohm R7 in place even if I use a 50 ohm SMA cable albeit not recommended?

It will save me time if anyone can recommend any other alternative DAC and EVM that I can use with an FMC adapter without the need to modify my FPGA code much?

  • Juned,

You will need to remove the transformer. There is an inductor between pins 4 and 6 that will short any DC current/voltage. Note that the DAC output needs to be centered around 3.3V for this DAC, which may pose a problem depending on what you're interfacing with. You will not be able to use the 25 ohm termination resistors (R7, R13) because they are tied to 3.3V, which is acceptable with the transformer. Without the transformer the 10 mA bias current of the DAC will drop the output voltage of the DAC to 3V. You could make use of R203 and R204 which are tied to 5V to bias the DAC output and provide termination.

Can you specify what you're interfacing with?
