TVP5154A to TVP5150AM1 Migration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5150AM1, TVP5154A, TVP5154, TVP5150

Hello,

Background:

I've been using the TVP5154A video decoder, but it now appears to be NRND. The only replacement I see is the TVP5150AM1, but this is a single channel (vs the 4 of the TVP5154A).

Question:

1) Is there a migration guide or something highlighting key differences?

2) Ultimately, I'm trying to find out what any differences are that would affect software, such as how the part is initialized, any register differences, etc.

  • The TVP5154 is basically 4x TVP5150 integrated in a single package, along with some optimizations, i.e. single crystal etc...

Migrating from the TVP5154 to the TVP5150AM1 should not present any major issues, and the internal core registers are almost identical.

The biggest change for you will possibly be if your current software writes to multiple TVP5154 cores at the same time. Obviously this will need to be split into 4 separate sets of transactions now.

You will also need to either use an I2C mux, 2x I2C ports or clock gate the SCL line since the TVP5150AM1 only has 2 selectable different I2C addresses. so 4 channels will need effectively 2 I2C channels.

We do not have any migration guides, sorry.

    BR,

    Steve
