12 or 16 Bit Dual Channel DAC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC7802, DAC8822, TLV5633

Hi,

I require a DAC with following specs and so kindly suggest suitable part number:-

  1. Dual channel DAC with following specifications:
    1. Resolution: 12 / 16 bit
    2. Parallel interface
    3. Operating supply voltage: +5v single supply
    4. Output:   voltage/current
    5. Reference:   internal
    6. SOIC package
    7. Full scale output: 5v

  • Hi Atul,

We do not have any device that will match every single criteria that you list, but we are close. Are there any specifications that you are willing to compromise on?

    For example:

DAC Resolution Parallel? Dual? 5V Supply? Output Int REF? SOIC?
DAC7802 12 Yes Yes Yes Current No Yes
DAC8822 16 Yes Yes Yes Current No No. TSSOP
TLV5633 12 Yes No Yes Voltage Yes Yes

Keep in mind a few things:

Having a DAC with a +5V supply and a +5V output voltage will cause a large full-scale error band, just like an amplifier when its near the rail. If it is a buffered DAC, then the DAC includes an output amplifier that would suffer the from the same limitations of a discrete amplifier.

If you use a current output DAC (also called unbuffered MDACs), you will be required to pick an output amplifier to convert the current to voltage.

    • Do you have any specifications as far as linearity or offset error?
    • What is the type of application? This can maybe help me figure out which DAC is the best for the job.
